Early stage researcher (junior expert – PhD student/candidate)

Type: part-time, fixed-term.

Duration: 24 months, starting with 1 June 2019.

Employer: National University of Political Studies and Public Administration – SNSPA.

Place: Romania, Bucharest, SNSPA. The PhD candidate will be integrated in the SODITREC research team.

Yearly salary: 9361 EURO (before taxes, in accordance with the Romanian laws).

Project: SODITREC – WP3 SNSPA. The SODITREC project (Social Dialogue in the Transforming Economy) is funded by the European Commission (EC-VS-2019-0096). The SODITREC Consortium brings together five public research institutions (UNIOVI-Spain; SNSPA-Romania; RUB-Germany; USFD-UK; SGH-Poland) and two associate partners (ETUI-Belgium; IGM-Germany). The SODITREC project will achieve impact by providing a comprehensive understanding of company-level social dialogue in the EU. It will contribute to knowledge relating to the strengthening of social dialogue in highly relevant economic transformations at EU company level. It will also make recommendations relating to industrial relations practices which are at the core of the EU corporate decision-making model. Project director Prof. Holm-Detlev Köhler (University of Oviedo). WP3 Leader – Lecturer Aurelian Muntean, SNSPA Bucharest. The aim of the WP3 is to identify the role, benefits and difficulties for EWC delegates of peripheral countries with low presence and low resources in European Works Councils (EWCs). The WP3 will describe and analyse the participation of delegates of subsidiaries from Romania, Poland and Spain in EWCs. It will identify the specific impacts of EWC participation for IR in these countries. It will analyse the particular difficulties for EWC delegates from peripheral countries to participate effectively in EWCs. It will elaborate suggestions on how to improve common identities and integration of all representatives in EWCs.

Responsibilities: Development of the PhD project in the framework of the overall SODITREC project, including two secondments at the European Trade Union Institute Brussels and the SGH – Warsaw School of Economics. Supervisor: Lecturer Aurelian Muntean. Participation in writing and submitting at least one article in a peered-review open access journal and one chapter in an edited book of the project. Participation in drafting and disseminating of at least one policy-paper. Participation in producing report deliverables.

Requirements: MA in the area of social sciences, preferable in sociology, political science or a related discipline. Candidates may not be in possession of a PhD. Experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis is desirable. Excellent knowledge of English and Romanian. Interest in the field of industrial relations and employment studies.
